I am starting a painting series that examines the ‘Primary Being’ in reference to Aristotle’s teaching. Deconstructing individual substances minus aesthetic conceptions of things. Exploration will reveal how [it] transpires inside of space and relationships to other objects. In consideration to a realistic standpoint, time will also be visualized, referencing the most recent physical past and what will become in the extreme future. Quite a large undertaking which keeps me busy studying. Currently reading Martin Heidegger: Being & Time (translated by Macquarrie and Robinson). For self research, Aristotle’s “Metaphysics” is a good place to start.
Like everything, this is changing … considering on focusing more on figurative work. We’ll see where it takes me.
I have practiced multiple disciplines that keep me from only working with one medium. When focused on just paint, I get bored and hate my work. Tobey Albright and I have discussed a new project we are collaborating on which is something I will soon reveal what has come of that in the very near future. Incorporating my poetry with photography and space.
In regards to philosophical visual interpretations, I find that I enjoy learning, reading and conversing the subject. Rather than creating a full series of work based on one idea from past lecture, I feel it would be best to incorporate those theories within a more focused idea of art making.
