Poetry

18th December, 2008

Words are something I have had some interest in since I was a child. I have books filled of writing since I was about six years old. I wrote all through high school, somewhat discretely with only a few people ever reading what I had written. I use to read Allen Ginsberg and had a fascination with the Beat Poets. Although I can not admit to having much interest in Jack Kerouac, but I do appreciate some of his work. Mina Loy and Giuseppe Ungaretti are also a few of my favorites.

When I got to college, I took a poetry class while Porch Magazine was being published. Allison Watkins became a huge role model for me at Ringling. She introduced our class to Slam Poetry and Saul Williams. Matt Kelly, Josh Lary and I use to meet others for late night poetry sessions, something I will always remember.

To see some of my writings, check out my ‘words‘ category towards the bottom of my blog (scroll down). Other poetry that was included in Porch Magazine can be found on the Spooky Maceo website here (javascript written by Nathan White.
