Giuseppe Ungaretti

26th January, 2007

Considered the founder of the hermetism, Ungaretti did not get a degree in poetry, rather he fought in WW1. An Italian born in Egypt, he later moved to Paris and studied poetry. His traumatic experiences in the war inspired his most famous work, L’allegria (Joy).

OF JULY
from the FEELING OF the TIME – from the CRONO END

When on us it throws itself,
It makes yourself of a sad color of rose
The beautiful one fogliame.

Strugge forre, drinks rivers,
Grinder scogli, shines,
E’ fury that s’ostina, is the implacable one,
It scatters space, it blinds goals,
E’ the summer and in the centuries
With its calcining eyes
The skeleton goes of the earth undressing.
